Clock Tower

  • Feb. 1893. On the 15th it was inaugurated by Thirunal by King Sri of Travancore.
  • The clock in the clock is attached by a 60-foot-long chain that bears weight and can be operated by wire based on gravity.
  • According to the Government of Travancore note dated August 22, 1893, the Church of London was overseas by Late Mr. Dadi, Hooverp, Horsley, Krishnan Iyer and Rathinasamy Iyer from Nagercoil built the stage together.

  • Construction cost of clock tower is 3258 rupees (9 chakras and 12 paise) To build the tower, Rs 1017 was contributed by the king and the remaining amount was collected from the public.

  • Since this clock is the symbol of our city, in 1972, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru.M.G.Ramachandran installed the statue of Kalaivanar N.S. Krishnan near the clock tower as a tribute to him.
